The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, alongside his co-defendant Henry Isioma Omole at the Ikeja State High Court in Lagos on Monday, April 8, 2024. They face allegations of abuse of office over the allocation of billions of United States dollars.

The 26-count charge, filed by Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN) and marked ID/23787c/2024, accuses Emefiele of abusing his authority by allocating foreign exchange without bids, amounting to $2,136,391,737.33 between 2022 and 2023.

The EFCC further alleges that Emefiele directed similar arbitrary acts, totaling $291,945,785.59 between 2020 and 2021, and $1,769,254,793.16 in 2021, prejudicial to the rights of Nigerians.

Additionally, Emefiele’s co-defendant, Omole, is accused of accepting $110,000 as a reward for Emefiele’s alleged actions.

The charges against Emefiele and Omole contravene Section 73 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
