The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company Plc (AEDC) has issued a sincere apology to customers erroneously charged under the Band A category, following a system glitch related to the recent tariff adjustments. The company has pledged to promptly identify affected customers and refund any excess charges incurred due to the error.

In a statement addressing the issue, AEDC clarified, “We are aware of the incorrect charges faced by some Band A customers who attempted to recharge their meters under the new tariff regime. This resulted from a system glitch triggered by the reclassification of certain Band A customers, who have since been downgraded to Band B due to the duration of electricity supply they have received in recent weeks.”

The statement continued, “Our team is diligently working to identify all customers impacted by this error, and we assure them that any overcharged amounts will be promptly refunded. Additionally, for those Band A customers who were mistakenly charged at the new tariff rate, once the glitch is rectified, they will be able to recharge their meters at the correct rate of N225 per kilowatt-hour, ensuring they receive a minimum of 20 hours of electricity supply daily.”

Expressing regret for any inconvenience caused during this transition, AEDC reiterated its commitment to enhancing power supply across all customer categories. The company urged understanding and cooperation from customers as it works to address the issue and improve service delivery.

The incident occurred following the recent approval by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to adjust electricity rates for Band A customers, as announced by Vice Chairman Musliu Oseni. The adjustment saw customers in this category facing an increase in tariff rates to N225 per kilowatt-hour, up from the previous rate of N66.
