UN Peacekeepers: Lebanon Patrol Explosion Not Direct Hit

The United Nations Interim Forces in South Lebanon (UNIFIL) stated on Wednesday that the explosion injuring three peacekeepers was not caused by a direct or indirect hit. UNIFIL spokesman Andrea Tenneti mentioned that preliminary investigations suggested no involvement of drones or artillery. Further inquiries are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident.

Last weekend, an explosion occurred near the Israeli border during a foot patrol, injuring a Lebanese language assistant and UN peacekeepers. Initial reports from the Lebanese news agency NNA suggested a drone attack on a UNIFIL vehicle, but Israeli military sources denied involvement. Lebanese security sources now indicate that the explosion may have resulted from an explosive device or a landmine along the patrol route.

Since the Gaza conflict in October, tensions between Israel and militant groups like Hezbollah have led to daily confrontations along the border, resulting in casualties on both sides. UNIFIL has been monitoring this volatile area since 1978.
