Gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey has taken legal action against four individuals for alleged criminal defamation and cyberstalking after they propagated false paternity rumors involving him and a fellow gospel singer’s child.
Bassey’s petition to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, calls for the investigation and prosecution of the suspects: Okoronkwo Ejike, Kingsley Ibeh, Terrence Ekot, and Dj Spoiltkid.
The petition highlights the dissemination of defamatory content on social media, where the suspects falsely implicated Bassey as the father of a child belonging to another gospel minister. Bassey’s legal team emphasized the gravity of the accusations, asserting that they constituted character assassination and contravened relevant sections of criminal and cybercrime laws.
Expressing concern over the potential damage to Bassey’s reputation and the destabilizing effect on marriages, the petition underscores the urgency of addressing the issue to prevent further harm.
The legal action seeks justice and serves as a deterrent against similar malicious acts on social media platforms.
