President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed condolences over the passing of former Labour leader, Comrade Ali Chiroma, who died on Tuesday.
In a statement signed by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, President Tinubu extended sympathies to the Chiroma family and the organised labour community.
Tinubu praised Chiroma for his advocacy for the independence of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and his defense of the downtrodden.
He offered prayers for the departed soul of Chiroma and assured his family of support during this time of grief.
Chiroma, who served as NLC president from 1984 to 1988, passed away at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and will be laid to rest in Borno today.
His burial is scheduled for Wednesday at 4 pm at his residence in Maiduguri, as announced by his relative and secretary of the NUJ in Borno state, Ibrahim Chiroma.
In 1993, Chiroma was appointed by former military head of state, Gen. Sani Abacha, as head of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).
