In Anambra State, a fierce gun battle erupted between security forces and gunmen on Tuesday, resulting in the death of at least five individuals and injuries to several others.
The confrontation unfolded as the Anambra Joint Security Force (JSF) launched a raid on two separate camps belonging to the gunmen. The raids targeted locations in Aguluezechukwu, situated in the Aguata council area, and Ogboji, located in the Orumba South council area.
Reports indicate that during the operation, security forces seized various items, including locally crafted rocket launchers, charms, and police uniforms, among others, from the camps of the gunmen.
While the Anambra police spokesman, Ikenga Tochukwu, did not provide specific details regarding the casualties, it is understood that the exchange claimed the lives of four gunmen and one police operative.
In response to the incident, the Anambra Police Command in Awka issued a statement confirming the extension of the pursuit for the gunmen to Obofia Forest, spanning the Aguluezechukwu and Ogboji areas.
