The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has responded to the recent defection of some of its members to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that it views the departure as a positive development.
According to a press release signed by Abraham Amah, the Vice Chairman/acting Publicity Secretary of the Abia PDP, the party acknowledges that while it is not concerned about the defections, it recognizes that those who left realized they were no longer beneficial to the PDP.
The party disclosed that a post-mortem analysis conducted after the 2023 general elections revealed that the brief downturn experienced by the PDP in Abia was primarily due to the actions of these defectors. As a result, the party sees their departure as an opportunity for reinvention and growth.
Amah emphasized that the Abia PDP has received numerous applications from individuals eager to join the party, indicating that the defections have been a blessing in disguise.
He stated, “The Abia PDP truly appreciates their exit after they recognized that they were no longer useful to the party in whatsoever form.”
Among the notable defectors are former Chief of Staff to ex-governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Anthony Agbazuere, and former Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Eze Chikamnayo, whose move to the APC has stirred the Abia political landscape.
