A group known as Arewa Think Tank advocates for prioritizing infrastructural and educational development in the North over political maneuvers aimed at seizing power from President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, the group’s Convener, emphasized the importance of praying for leaders rather than cursing them during a prayer session organized for Tinubu’s 72nd birthday. He questioned the need for the North to oppose Tinubu’s potential presidency after a northern leader completes two terms.
Yakubu underscored that the focus should be on addressing the region’s pressing challenges, such as insecurity, instead of engaging in power struggles. He highlighted the lack of significant progress in resolving security issues despite previous leadership. The group expressed support for Tinubu’s candidacy, citing his track record of infrastructure development across the country and his pledge to complete key projects, such as highways linking Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano.
Yakubu outlined the group’s approach to Tinubu’s administration, indicating a willingness to provide a grace period of one to one and a half years before considering criticism. He emphasized the need for constructive engagement and patience to allow Tinubu’s government to address inherited challenges effectively.
