A man named Chigozie Okpara, reportedly in his forties, is currently under police custody in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for allegedly defiling a boy.
It’s alleged that Okpara enticed the boy to his residence at Okujagu, in the Trans Amadi area of Port Harcourt, with promises of food and snacks on Sunday, March 31, 2024, where he then committed the act.
During the incident, neighbors heard the boy’s cries and alerted local vigilantes in the vicinity.
The vigilante members swiftly intervened and rescued the boy from the situation.
Subsequently, the suspect was handed over to the Trans Amadi Police Division by the vigilante group.
A police source familiar with defilement cases informed our reporter that the suspect will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for discreet investigation, alongside necessary medical examinations for the boy.
Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect remains in police custody while investigations are ongoing.
