Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has found himself embroiled in a social media storm over a controversial video clip depicting him making welcome gestures.
Amidst the uproar, Musa has urged for a shift in attention towards the urgent issues facing the country, defending his actions as a gesture of cultural respect.
Responding to a viral video from Monday, where he was seen shaking hands with the deputy governor of Kano State but seemingly bypassing Governor Abba Yusuf while bowing to him, Musa addressed the matter.
In a statement on Tuesday, Musa expressed disappointment at the disproportionate focus on what he deemed a simple act of cultural reverence.
He explained the significance of his gestures within Northern culture, emphasizing that kneeling and shaking hands are deeply ingrained forms of respect.
Musa clarified that his intention was to honor the deputy governor with the customary greeting, while choosing to bow to the governor as a mark of respect aligned with tradition.
Expressing regret over the undue attention the incident garnered, he lamented its overshadowing of more critical issues such as economic hardships and security challenges plaguing the nation.
Musa further expressed dismay at comments questioning his respectfulness, particularly from those unfamiliar with him personally, calling for a refocus on pertinent national concerns.
He implored Nigerians to redirect their efforts towards addressing the country’s pressing issues, advocating for unity and collective action towards a better future.
