The Edo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised drivers to disregard passengers’ requests for overspeeding during the Easter celebrations.
Paul Okpe, the FRSC State Sector Commander, emphasized that passengers who instigate overspeeding contribute to road crashes and should be ignored.
Okpe issued this advice during a road show aimed at sensitizing road users on the importance of safety consciousness.
He urged motorists and other road users to adhere to traffic rules and regulations to ensure their safety throughout the Easter festivities.
Highlighting the necessity of the sensitization campaign due to drivers’ behavior in the state, Okpe stressed the importance of being alive to celebrate.
Before embarking on journeys, Okpe advised drivers to conduct vehicle checks to ensure essential components such as brakes, lights, fire extinguishers, and tires are in good condition.
Furthermore, he reminded drivers to wear seatbelts, avoid overloading, speeding, dangerous driving, and route violations while on the road.
Okpe emphasized the significance of driving at minimal speeds and respecting other road users, as safety is paramount during the festive season.
To ensure a smooth celebration, Okpe disclosed plans to deploy FRSC personnel across the state.
He appealed to stakeholders to collaborate with the FRSC in preventing road crashes, particularly during festive periods, to ensure travelers’ safe arrival at their destinations.
