In response to the increased Hajj fare for the 2024 pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed has approved a significant subsidy of 50% to alleviate the financial burden on pilgrims from the state.

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCOM) raised the fare by N1,918,032.91 for the pilgrimage.

In light of this development, the Bauchi State Government will provide a subsidy of N959,000 for each of the 1,652 intending pilgrims from the state, totaling N2.5 billion.

Mukhtar Gidado, the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Governor, announced this historic decision, emphasizing the government’s commitment to facilitating religious obligations and enhancing the welfare of its citizens.

The subsidy covers 50% of the additional fare imposed by NAHCOM, demonstrating the government’s dedication to supporting Muslim faithful in fulfilling their sacred duty of performing the Hajj pilgrimage.

Governor Bala Mohammed approved the immediate release of N2.196 billion for the payment of the subsidy fare, underscoring the government’s commitment to ensuring equal access to opportunities and resources for all citizens.

This initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to promote inclusive governance and enable more citizens to participate in this revered religious obligation, thus fostering unity and social cohesion.
