The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a challenge to Rivers State Governor, Siminilayi Fubara, urging him to test his popularity by conducting local government elections in the state.

The call comes in response to the peace meeting convened by President Bola Tinubu to address the political crisis in Rivers State, during which conducting local government elections was among the resolutions reached.

APC also criticized the declaration of support for Tinubu by certain members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as hypocritical, particularly those loyal to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Led by former PDP national chairman Uche Secondus and former Director-General of PDP Campaign Council Dr. Abiye Sekibo, the group declared their support for Tinubu and Fubara.

However, Chairman of APC in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, emphasized that these individuals are still Atiku’s supporters despite their show of support for Tinubu.

Okocha questioned the utilization of state funds for weekly thanksgiving services, highlighting the lack of value added by such expenditures.

He called on Governor Fubara to conduct local government elections as a means to gauge public opinion, noting that it was one of the resolutions agreed upon with the President.

Furthermore, Okocha criticized the PDP members for allegedly disrespecting President Muhammadu Buhari by questioning his leadership decisions and failing to implement the Presidential Proclamation aimed at resolving the political crisis in Rivers State.

The APC reiterated its stance on the importance of conducting local government elections and urged Governor Fubara to take decisive action to address the political situation in the state.
