A group of unidentified gunmen, estimated to be around 30 in number, set fire to the Neni Police station and the Anaocha Local Government Area headquarters in Anambra state.
The armed assailants reportedly launched the attack between 3 am and 4 am on Thursday, causing significant damage.
According to reports, the gunmen also abducted several police officers, including female personnel, from the police station.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, confirmed that the attackers used Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) during the assault. However, he clarified that no firearms were taken, and no police personnel were abducted.
Ikenga added that the assailants were repelled by the police force’s superior firepower, leading them to retreat.
As of the time of his statement, operations to address the situation were still ongoing in the area.
