The city of Wasco, California, grapples with disbelief and horror in the aftermath of a disturbing encounter involving human remains.
Following a tragic incident in which an individual was struck by a train, authorities have taken Rosendo Tellez, 27, into custody for allegedly tampering with human remains found at the city’s Amtrak Station. Witnesses, including local construction worker Jose Ibarra, recounted a chilling scene, claiming to have observed Tellez, reportedly homeless according to Wasco residents, consuming a human leg.

“I saw him biting into it… it turned out to be a person’s leg,” Ibarra recounted to NBC affiliate KGET. Disturbing footage captured by a social media user depicted Tellez waving what appeared to be a severed leg while police vehicles stood nearby.

Records from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, obtained by E! News, detail Tellez’s arrest on March 22 on charges including one misdemeanor count of “removal of human remains from other than a cemetery,” one misdemeanor count of possession of controlled substance paraphernalia, and one felony offense of “revocation of felony probation.”

The morning of March 22 saw law enforcement responding to the tragic train collision, claiming the life of an unidentified victim. It was during this tumultuous scene that Tellez was apprehended.

The unsettling nature of the incident has left Wasco residents shaken, prompting questions about mental health resources and societal support for vulnerable populations.
