Kenneth Omeruo expressed his sentiments on the Super Eagles’ unfortunate loss to the Eagles on Tuesday night. The three-time African champions suffered a 2-0 defeat against Eric Chelle’s side in a friendly match held at the Grand Stade de Marrakech.
The Eagles took the lead in the 18th minute, courtesy of Atalanta star El Bilal Toure, who capitalized on a misplaced pass by Chidozie Awaziem. Kamarou Dounmbia secured the win with another goal after halftime.
Reflecting on the match, Omeruo acknowledged the Super Eagles’ improved performance in the second half but lamented their missed opportunities. Despite their efforts, they were unable to find the back of the net.
“I believe we showcased a stronger performance in the second half. It wasn’t a poor display overall; however, our failure to capitalize on chances resulted in their two goals,” Omeruo remarked. “Despite the outcome, I believe our team displayed commendable spirit, and all players gave their utmost effort. Unfortunately, we couldn’t convert our opportunities into goals.”
Looking ahead, the Super Eagles will redirect their focus towards the June 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.
