Former national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh, has issued a heartfelt plea to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to pursue a political resolution leading to the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as a crucial step towards achieving enduring peace in the South East region of Nigeria.
Metuh, speaking from Abuja in a statement released on Tuesday, praised President Tinubu for his constructive approach and dedication to fostering peace, progress, and stability in the South East. He implored Tinubu to address the unrest in the region by implementing a political solution, primarily through securing the release of Nnamdi Kanu from detention.
The former opposition spokesperson, who withdrew from active partisan politics two years ago, has consistently advocated for Nnamdi Kanu’s release, having presented numerous appeals to the immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari.
Describing President Tinubu as “a seasoned democrat and empathetic leader well-versed in the intricacies of Nigeria’s diverse social fabric,” Metuh called upon Tinubu to leverage his national influence to engage effectively and quell the unrest prevailing in the South East.
Metuh emphasized, “It is against this backdrop that I make this passionate plea to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to adopt a political solution that will lead to the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as a major step to restoring lasting peace in the South East Region of the country.”
While making this appeal, Metuh also encouraged the youth of the South East to reject any tendencies or actions that could harm local businesses and inadvertently empower detrimental forces that prey on the people’s welfare.
