Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, speaking at the 9th International Trade Exhibition and Conference on Agrofood, Plastics, Printing, and Packaging in Lagos, passionately described himself as “a mad man for agriculture.”
Emphasizing the critical role of agribusiness in promoting food security, nutrition security, employment, wealth creation, poverty elimination, and income generation, he highlighted the need for a concerted effort to bolster the agricultural sector.
Obasanjo underscored the importance of addressing key aspects of food security, namely availability, affordability, and accessibility. He emphasized the imperative of producing enough food to meet the nation’s needs, ensuring that food is accessible to all, and minimizing food waste, which currently accounts for almost 40% of total production.
In reflecting on his commitment to agriculture, Obasanjo expressed a firm resolve to prioritize agricultural development, affirming his readiness to contribute actively to efforts aimed at enhancing food security in the country. He concluded by reaffirming his unwavering dedication to agriculture and his readiness to answer the call to action whenever the need arises.
