The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, has affirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to fostering a robust coordination of Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) ecosystem in Nigeria.

Speaking at the RDI Coordination Summit themed “Advancing Nigeria’s Global Competitiveness through a Resilient National RDI Coordination,” Nnaji emphasized the need for comprehensive coordination in RDI, describing it as a vital element requiring resilience, inclusivity, and forward-thinking.

Nnaji outlined the government’s vision to position Nigeria as a hub for African innovation, contributing significantly to the global knowledge economy. He proposed a three-pronged approach to achieve this objective.

Firstly, he stressed the importance of establishing and reinforcing institutional frameworks essential for effective RDI coordination. This involves policy reforms aimed at incentivizing research and development, safeguarding intellectual properties, and facilitating the commercialization of research outcomes.

Secondly, Nnaji underscored the significance of fostering Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), emphasizing the critical role of collaboration between the public sector, private industry, and academic institutions. By leveraging the strengths of each sector, partnerships can accelerate the translation of research into market-ready solutions to address pressing challenges.

Lastly, Nnaji emphasized the paramount importance of investing in education and training to cultivate a skilled workforce capable of navigating and leading in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. He emphasized the need to nurture young talents and provide them with platforms to excel and innovate.

In concluding his remarks, Nnaji emphasized that the journey towards enhancing Nigeria’s global competitiveness through resilient RDI coordination requires commitment, collaboration, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. He called for collective efforts in achieving this goal, highlighting the necessity for dedication and cooperation among all stakeholders.
