Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has expressed profound sadness following the tragic demise of three medical students from Abia State University, Uturu.
The unfortunate incident occurred last Thursday evening at the Nunya axis of the Enugu Port Harcourt Expressway, as the students were returning to Aba after attending an induction ceremony for their senior colleagues at the university’s main campus in Uturu.
University Public Relations Officer, Chijioke Nwogu, confirmed the heartbreaking event.
In a statement released on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Kazie Uko, Governor Otti lamented the loss of these promising young medical students, especially at a time when the state government was actively revitalizing the education and health sectors.
Governor Otti expressed particular sorrow as the ceremony attended by the students marked the first graduation since the reinstatement of accreditation for doctor training at the College of Medicine, Abia State University, and the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Aba, following a suspension lasting over two years.
He has dispatched senior government officials to convey condolences and offer support to the families of all five students involved in the accident, including the two survivors.
Governor Otti extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, while also expressing sympathy to the authorities of Abia State University, Uturu, and prayed for divine comfort and healing during this difficult time.
