NiMeT Forecasts 3-Day Sunshine, Hazy Conditions Across Nigeria, Advises Precautionary Measures

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather outlook predicting sunshine and haziness from Monday to Wednesday throughout the country. Released on Sunday in Abuja, the forecast provides detailed insights into the weather conditions expected across different regions.

On Monday, NiMet anticipates sunny skies in a hazy atmosphere over the northern region, with the possibility of dust haze in states including Yobe, Borno, Kaduna, Jigawa, and Kano. In the North Central region, a sunny atmosphere with patches of clouds is expected in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms later in the day in states such as Kwara, Benue, Niger, and Kogi. The southern region is forecasted to experience a cloudy atmosphere, with morning thunderstorms expected over parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

Moving to Tuesday, NiMet projects similar weather patterns, with sunny skies and haze predicted for the northern region. Isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of Taraba State during the afternoon and evening. In the North Central region, a sunny atmosphere with patches of clouds is forecasted, along with isolated thunderstorms over certain areas later in the day. The southern region is expected to have a cloudy atmosphere in the morning, with morning thunderstorms forecasted over parts of Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom states.

On Wednesday, NiMet predicts continued sunshine over the northern region. In the North Central region, sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, and Plateau states later in the day. The southern region is forecasted to have a cloudy atmosphere in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms projected over various states later in the day.

NiMet advises the public to take precautions, particularly in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur. People with respiratory issues are urged to be cautious due to the prevailing weather conditions. Additionally, NiMet highlights the importance of moisturizing skin, eyes, and lips, especially in the dry air associated with Harmattan. Airline operators are advised to stay updated on weather reports for effective planning in their operations.
