Nadeem Anjarwalla, one of the Binance executives detained in Nigeria over charges of tax evasion and other offenses, has allegedly escaped from custody, as reported by Premium Times.
According to the news outlet, Mr. Anjarwalla, aged 38, managed to flee from the Abuja guest house where he and his associate were being held on Friday, March 22. The escape reportedly occurred when the on-duty guards escorted them to a nearby mosque for prayers during the ongoing Ramadan fast.
The British citizen, who also holds Kenyan nationality, is believed to have departed from Abuja via a Middle Eastern flight. Despite entering Nigeria using a British passport, which is currently in the possession of Nigerian authorities, it remains unclear how Mr. Anjarwalla managed to board an international flight.
Authorities are now actively investigating his intended destination in an effort to locate and apprehend him. In an interview with Premium Times, an immigration official confirmed that the Binance executive utilized a Kenyan passport to depart from Nigeria.
This escape raises serious questions regarding the security protocols in place and the circumstances surrounding Mr. Anjarwalla’s departure. Nigerian authorities are facing mounting pressure to provide explanations and take swift action to address this breach of custody.
