The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged the FCT Administration’s assistance to combat insecurity in Nigeria during a courtesy visit by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, in Abuja.
Wike commended the Nigerian military’s dedication to national security and promised support from the FCT Administration to enhance security measures and preserve the nation’s territorial integrity.
He assured the CDS of the FCTA’s readiness to provide any necessary support, including provisions in the 2024 FCT budget for the procurement of drones and logistics to aid security agencies in their efforts.
Additionally, Wike disclosed plans to establish an FCT Rapid Response Centre, equipped with advanced technology and managed jointly by various security agencies, to bolster the fight against insecurity.
Expressing condolences over the recent incident in Delta State that claimed the lives of military personnel, Wike reiterated FCT’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian military in alleviating the families’ pain.
In response, the CDS commended Wike for the FCT’s transformative initiatives and assured continued support from the Armed Forces. He emphasized the military’s duty to protect Nigerians while respecting their rights.
Regarding rising criminal activities such as “one chance” incidents and kidnappings, the CDS mentioned plans to establish a responsive force to assist the police, including ground and air troops for peacekeeping efforts.
The collaborative efforts underscore a unified approach to tackling insecurity and maintaining peace and stability across Nigeria.
