The Niger-Delta Women Professionals have issued a bold demand for peace and justice, urging those implicated in the killing of soldiers from the 181 Amphibious Division in Okuama village, Delta State, to surrender to military authorities immediately. This request, delivered by the group’s President and General Secretary, Mrs. Augusta Wariboko and Dr. Agnes Tari, respectively, emphasizes the urgent need to restore peace to the troubled areas.
In a statement released in Abuja on Friday, the group emphasized the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and condemned the reprehensible act of violence against them. They highlighted the pivotal role of the military in fostering peace in the region, particularly through non-kinetic approaches, and stressed the imperative of condemning such killings unequivocally.
Describing the incident as unacceptable and potentially destabilizing to peace efforts in the region, the Niger-Delta Women Professionals affirmed their support for ongoing initiatives aimed at apprehending the perpetrators. They expressed solidarity with the investigation ordered by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Chris Musa, and urged swift surrender of the culprits to military authorities.
The group called upon residents of Okuama and surrounding areas to collaborate with security agencies by providing relevant information crucial to apprehending the perpetrators. They vehemently denounced the actions of the militant group responsible for the heinous crime, emphasizing that such conduct does not represent the values of the Niger-Delta community.
Furthermore, the Niger-Delta Women Professionals reiterated their unwavering support for the efforts led by Gen. Musa and his troops in combating oil theft, underscoring their commitment to peace, security, and the rule of law in the region.
