In Ekiti State, the government has intervened in a longstanding land dispute among three royal dynasties in Epe, Ijero Local Government Area, advocating for peace, unity, and harmony among citizens to address such conflicts.
Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye made the appeal in Ado Ekiti, stressing the importance of resolving land disputes peacefully to prevent violence and division in communities.
The intervention stemmed from a petition by Elepe of Epe, Oba Ayodeji Adesoye, alleging interference and violence from three princes over farmlands designated as ‘Oko Oba.’
While the defendants denied the accusations, asserting familial ownership of the land, the Deputy Governor emphasized Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s commitment to peace and unity in Ekiti State.
She urged all parties to uphold respect for royalty and tradition, with the government committed to ensuring justice prevails in the matter.
The case was adjourned for further government deliberation, with Oba Adesoye emphasizing his entitlement to the disputed land, citing traditional allocations after his enthronement.
The defendants maintained their stance on familial ownership, citing historical practices and agreements within the community.
Community leader Chief James Eyebiokin shed light on traditional practices regarding land allocations to sitting monarchs for palace financing.
