Police operatives in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, have apprehended a 28-year-old man named Pascal Akuh for allegedly orchestrating his own kidnapping. Akuh’s arrest was part of a series of suspects paraded by FCT Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh at the command’s headquarters on Wednesday, March 20.
According to Commissioner Igweh, Akuh’s brother reported to the Apo Divisional Headquarters on March 14, 2023, around 5:30 p.m., claiming that Pascal Akuh had informed him of being arrested by the police and taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) custody.
Subsequently, police officers and the suspect’s relatives conducted visits to various detention facilities including the SCID, IRT, and FCID, but found no trace of Akuh. However, the suspect’s car was tracked to a location in Wumba, Apo, using a GPS tracker. Acting on this information, officers from the Apo Division swiftly conducted a search in the area and eventually located and detained Akuh at a hotel in Lokogoma later that night.
During interrogation, Akuh confessed to staging his own kidnapping as a means to test the love of his intended fiancée.
