Kanywood actress Amal Umar has been charged with bribery in connection with her boyfriend’s suspected embezzlement of N40 million. Allegedly, Umar attempted to bribe ASP Salisu Bujama of the Nigeria Police Force with N250,000 to halt the investigation into her boyfriend’s financial wrongdoing.

The actress was arraigned before Magistrate Court No. 24 in the Gyadi-Gyadi neighborhood of Kano. The charge against her stems from her alleged attempt to bribe the police officer at the Zone 1 headquarters in Kano State.

According to reports, Alhaji Yusuf Adamu, through his attorney H.I. Dederi, filed a complaint on August 18, 2022, with the Assistant Inspector General (AI) Umar Mohd Sanda. The complaint detailed allegations that Ramadan Inuwa, Umar’s boyfriend, embezzled N40 million from his cell phone business.

Following the complaint, police conducted an investigation and discovered that Inuwa had transferred N13 million to Amal Umar’s bank account. As a result, Umar was summoned for questioning by CSP Bashir Muhammed, the spokesman for the Nigerian Police Force, Zone 1, Kano.

Umar was subsequently released on bail but was not allowed to drive away in a car reportedly purchased by her boyfriend. The prosecution alleges that the purpose of the bribe was to obstruct the investigation into her boyfriend’s financial misconduct.
