The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has disclosed that 605 individuals involved in drug use and trafficking were arrested in Ogun State during the course of 2023, according to Ibiba Odili, the State Commander of the NDLEA.
Speaking to reporters in Abeokuta, Odili provided insights into the command’s activities throughout the year. Among those apprehended, 497 were male and 108 were female.
Addressing the issue of drug users, Odili emphasized the importance of recognizing their condition as a chronic brain disorder rather than merely labeling them as suspects. She underscored the need for a compassionate approach, stating that these individuals require help, treatment, support, and rehabilitation to overcome their drug-related challenges.
Highlighting international best practices, Odili stressed the significance of providing assistance and rehabilitation to individuals struggling with drug addiction. She reiterated the NDLEA’s commitment to combating drug abuse while prioritizing the welfare and recovery of those affected.
