Gospel musician Theophilus Sunday on Tuesday took to social media to share the joyous news of his engagement to his beloved Jamaican partner, Ashlee White.
However, the announcement triggered discussions on platforms like Twitter, with many users drawing comparisons to fellow gospel artist Moses Bliss, who recently tied the knot with his Ghanaian partner, Marie Wiseborn.
The news prompted questions about why a growing number of gospel musicians seem to be choosing partners from outside Nigeria. Some Twitter users speculated that this trend might be due to concerns about Nigerian women being perceived as overly dependent or prone to seeking financial support (“urgent 2k billing”). Others countered these assumptions, highlighting the presence of hardworking, beautiful, and virtuous Nigerian women within the Christian community who remain single.
