The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has given the green light for the immediate remodelling and renovation of the Yeriman Bakura Specialist Hospital to address the increasing demand for tertiary medical services in the state.
In a statement on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, it was revealed that the decision was reached during the state’s 19th Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Gusau. The renovation aims to transform the hospital into a modern and fully functional healthcare facility.
The statement emphasized that the move is part of the state government’s efforts to tackle the challenges facing the health sector, following the recent declaration of a state of emergency in Zamfara’s healthcare system. The Specialist Hospital, which has long been in disrepair and lacking adequate medical equipment, has forced patients to seek critical medical services in neighboring states like Sokoto and Kaduna.
Mustapha Falaki, the Managing Director of Minjirya Health Services Limited, presented the current state of the specialist hospital and outlined the remodeling plans during the Council meeting. The renovation project will involve the construction of new structures, installation of modern medical equipment, and training of staff to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services.
Additionally, the Council discussed various important matters, including the state’s social protection policy aimed at consolidating social interventions to support Zamfara’s development agenda. The policy is designed to guide both public and private investments in social protection initiatives, aligning with the state’s vision of becoming a development hub in Nigeria.
