The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stark warning, asserting that President Bola Tinubu will face significant electoral challenges in the 2027 presidential election if he fails to address the alleged marginalization of the party by Minister Nyesom Wike.
During a press conference held in Abuja, APC leaders expressed dismay over what they perceive as the sidelining of APC members in recent appointments made by Minister Wike. They lamented the potential repercussions for the party’s electoral prospects, warning of a dismal performance in both the presidential and Area Councils elections if the situation persists.
Led by convener Comrade Abdulwahab Ekekhide and co-convener David Omobolaji Obaje, the APC chieftains voiced their collective rejection of the perceived neglect and disregard for the party’s interests in the FCT. They highlighted Minister Wike’s alleged refusal to engage with APC leadership despite repeated attempts to seek audience, characterizing it as detrimental to the party’s political standing.
Ekekhide emphasized the urgency of the situation, urging President Tinubu, as the “Governor-General” of the FCT, to intervene and compel Minister Wike to prioritize the empowerment of the APC. He warned that failure to do so would severely impede the party’s electoral performance, potentially resulting in a meager 2% vote share for the President in the 2027 presidential election and a loss in the upcoming Area Councils election.
“As we all know, the President is the Governor-General of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), but delegates his powers to a Minister, and today Barr. Nyesom Wike is standing in for the President as Hon. Minister of the FCT,” Ekekhide emphasized.
