President Bola Tinubu convened a significant gathering with the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the State House in Abuja, cementing the party’s strategy for the upcoming September 2024 elections.

During the session, the party’s standard was formally handed over to Monday Okpebholo, the gubernatorial candidate, and his running mate, Dennis Idahosa. The delegation, spearheaded by APC Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, emphasized unity and solidarity within the party ranks.

While the specifics of the closed-door discussions remain undisclosed, it’s rumored that Idahosa has been urged to retract his legal challenge against Okpebholo’s candidacy. The primary election, which saw Okpebholo emerge as the candidate, encountered controversy with Idahosa initially declared the nominee by the Governor Hope Uzodimma-led committee.

The initial round of voting witnessed Okpebholo, Idahosa, and Dekeri vying for the party’s gubernatorial ticket. Consequently, due to numerous irregularities, the party’s National Working Committee deemed the exercise inconclusive.

In a subsequent re-run on February 23, Okpebholo clinched victory, solidifying his candidacy. Noteworthy attendees at the gathering included Senator Adams Oshiomhole and former Senator Matthew Urhoghide, underscoring the breadth of support within the party’s leadership.
