The Kano State Police Command is addressing a concerning trend of criminal activities linked to the exploitation of the Ramadan Cultural Tashe by some youths in the state. According to Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, the traditional “Tashe” gatherings have been misused by certain individuals to conceal weapons and orchestrate attacks, prompting the implementation of proactive security measures.

Gumel stressed that the police have conducted a thorough review of the crime pattern, identifying instances where youths organized fights during Tashe events to rob unsuspecting victims. In response, the Police Command has deployed a comprehensive security strategy aimed at maintaining peace and safety across the state.

To tackle the issue effectively, all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Commanders have been instructed to engage with key stakeholders, including organizers of Tashe events, to prevent potential violence. Additionally, heightened surveillance and patrols have been implemented in areas susceptible to exploitation of the Tashe culture for criminal purposes.

The Police Chief highlighted the importance of proactive intelligence gathering to preempt security threats, enabling swift responses to emerging challenges during and after the Ramadan period. Furthermore, the Police Command has initiated dialogue with community leaders, religious authorities, and influential youths to address the root causes of the issue and promote peace and security during this holy month.
