Afrobeats singer David Adedeji Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has attributed Grammy-winning Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo for paving the way for a new generation of African artists, including himself, to gain global recognition. Davido commended the iconic ‘Wombo Lombo’ vocalist for her longstanding representation of the continent on the international stage.
Expressing his admiration for Kidjo and reflecting on their recent collaboration, Davido emphasized his eagerness to work with the legendary musician. In a recent interview with CNN’s Inside Africa, Davido fondly referred to Kidjo as “Mama Africa” and acknowledged her unparalleled ability to captivate diverse audiences worldwide.
Davido stated, “I’ve always been wanting to work with Mama Africa [Angelique Kidjo], that’s what we call her, for a long long time.” He highlighted Kidjo’s versatility in performing across various settings and her significant impact in promoting African music globally, which has opened doors for emerging artists like himself.
The collaboration between Davido and Angelique Kidjo, along with The Cavemen, on the track ‘Na Money’ from Davido’s Grammy-nominated album ‘Timeless’ marks a significant milestone in the convergence of African musical talents on a global platform.
