George-Kelly D. Alabo, the Commissioner for Works in Rivers State, has tendered his resignation from the position, citing his recent appointment as the Director-General of the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA) by President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement addressed to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Alabo expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the people of Rivers State in his capacity as commissioner.
President Tinubu’s spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, announced Alabo’s appointment on Thursday, emphasizing the president’s expectation of Alabo’s diligent and dedicated discharge of duties to effectively administer the agency and manage critical policies and programs aligned with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda for border communities development.
Alabo’s resignation comes after a tenure marked by his commitment to public service and infrastructure development in Rivers State. Notably, Alabo was previously aligned with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, but resigned from his position during the political crisis in the state in 2023.
However, Alabo later returned to his role following President Tinubu’s intervention in December 2023, which led to the signing of an eight-point resolution at the Presidential Villa to resolve the political impasse in the state.
