In a decisive crackdown on cybercrime, operatives of the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended 57 individuals suspected of involvement in internet fraud in Benin City.
The arrests, which took place on Thursday, March 14, 2024, were executed at various locations across Benin City based on actionable intelligence regarding the suspects’ alleged participation in internet-related offenses.
During the operation, law enforcement agents recovered a cache of incriminating items from the apprehended individuals, including 12 exotic cars. Among the seized vehicles were four Mercedes-Benz GLK, two Mercedes Benz C300, one Mercedes-Benz 350, four Lexus ES350, and one Lexus RX330. Additionally, laptops and mobile phones were confiscated as potential evidence.
According to the EFCC, the suspects will undergo thorough investigation procedures, after which they will be arraigned in court to face charges related to their alleged criminal activities. The commission is committed to ensuring that justice is served swiftly and comprehensively in accordance with the law.
