Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representing Katsina Central in the upper legislative chamber, has been elected as the new Chairman of the Northern Senators’ Forum. His appointment follows the resignation of Senator Abdul Ningi, who stepped down after being suspended for three months by the Senate over a budget padding allegation.

In his acceptance speech to the members of the forum, Senator Yar’Adua expressed profound gratitude and humility, acknowledging the honor bestowed upon him. He extended his appreciation to his esteemed colleagues for their vote of confidence and recognized the contributions made by Senator Abdul Ningi during his tenure, whom he holds in high regard.

“I am deeply humbled by this opportunity to serve as the Chairman of the Northern Senators’ Forum, and I am committed to upholding the trust and confidence reposed in me,” remarked Senator Yar’Adua.

Reflecting on the challenges confronting the Northern region, Senator Yar’Adua emphasized his awareness of critical issues such as security, agriculture, education, healthcare, drug abuse, and human trafficking. He pledged to prioritize these pressing concerns and work collaboratively with fellow senators to address them effectively.

“As a representative of the Northern region, I am acutely aware of the multifaceted challenges our constituents face. It is incumbent upon us as leaders to confront these issues head-on and strive to enact meaningful change that improves the lives of our people,” Senator Yar’Adua affirmed.
