Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has officially signed the Bulk Purchase Agency and Assets Management and Maintenance Agency Bills into law. The bills were earlier passed by the State House of Assembly.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ekerete Udoh, Governor Umo Eno commended the State House of Assembly for their swift action in passing the bills. He emphasized the importance of these laws in addressing the economic challenges faced by Nigerians, particularly the high cost of staple food items.

The Bulk Purchase Bill is a direct response to the rising prices of essential food items and aims to provide relief to the people by facilitating the availability of these items at reduced prices. Governor Umo Eno reiterated that while this intervention is necessary, the long-term solution lies in revitalizing the agricultural sector. To this end, the government plans to establish an Agric Committee to support farmers with seedlings and encourage them to return to farming.

Additionally, the governor signed the bill to create the State’s Assets Register, which will focus on maintaining and managing the state’s assets apart from roads. This initiative underscores the importance of preserving infrastructure and developing a strong maintenance culture. The bill also includes provisions for establishing an occupational safety department to ensure workplace safety standards are upheld.
