The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken action against two unregistered water packaging companies operating without approval in the Ota area of Ogun State.

According to Mr. Philip Benu, the State Coordinator of NAFDAC, Ogun 2 Office, the closure followed the companies’ failure to meet NAFDAC’s registration requirements.

Benu explained that the enforcement was part of routine inspections conducted by regulatory officers from the Ogun 2 office.

Initially, the facilities of the two companies were sealed with NAFDAC seals, and the companies were invited to the NAFDAC office in Ota for further scrutiny after being found operating without approval earlier in the year.

Despite the seals and invitations, the companies persisted in their operations and removed the seals placed at their entrances.

The state coordinator revealed that the companies resumed production using unregistered water products with fake NAFDAC registration numbers in unsanitary conditions.

Benu emphasized that proper registration and compliance with NAFDAC’s standards are essential for producing packaged products. This includes having facilities that meet minimum requirements and undergoing laboratory tests.

He highlighted the importance of routine monitoring to ensure compliance and criticized the practice of some individuals starting production without NAFDAC approval in inadequate facilities.
