A Sharia Court in Kano State dissolved the marriage between Zakari Ghali, 48, and Shamsiyya Haruna, 33, citing abandonment as the grounds for divorce. Ms. Haruna, residing in Unguwa Uku Quarters Kano, filed for divorce, alleging that Ghali abandoned her and their five children without providing food. Despite attempts at reconciliation by the court and their guardians, the marriage was dissolved, with custody of the children granted to Ms. Haruna.

Judge Malam Umar Lawal-Abubakar ruled in favor of the divorce, ordering Mr. Ghali to pay N90,000 monthly for the upkeep of the children. In his defense, Mr. Ghali cited economic hardship as the reason for leaving the house, stating that he lacked the means to support his family, especially after losing the car he used for transporting goods.
