The Kaduna Electric utility company has released a list of over 49,000 customers who were refunded for overbilling, following directives from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). This move aligns with NERC’s Capping Order, which limits charges for unmetered customers to ensure fairness in billing.
The Registrar’s directive aims to harmonize estimated bills for unmetered customers with the actual consumption of metered ones on the same supply feeder. Kaduna Electric has uploaded the full list of refunded customers on its website, www.kadunaelectric.com, in compliance with NERC’s regulations.
In accordance with NERC’s guidelines, Kaduna Electric has completed credit adjustments for affected customers based on assessments from January to September 2023. These adjustments reflect the cumulative overbilled amounts, which customers will see reflected in their February 2024 bills.
Abdulazeez Abdullahi, the Head of Corporate Communication at Kaduna Electric, emphasized the company’s commitment to regulatory compliance. He stressed the importance of prompt payment by customers to support the electricity market’s stability and discourage energy theft.
Abdullahi reiterated the company’s stance on maintaining discipline within the electricity market and urged customers to settle their bills promptly to support efforts to improve service delivery and sustainability in Kaduna Electric’s operations.
