The Jigawa State Government has allocated N2.83 billion for a special Ramadan Iftar feeding program aimed at providing meals for the impoverished and vulnerable individuals in the state. This initiative, outlined by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Sagir Musa, will operate through 609 feeding centers, offering three different food items to approximately 182,700 people daily.
In addition to these feeding centers, special facilities will be established at each of the state’s ten tertiary institutions. The program is scheduled to run for three weeks, benefiting an estimated 3.8 million vulnerable individuals throughout the Ramadan period.
The decision to implement this initiative was made during the Jigawa State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday. Commissioner Musa emphasized that these measures were enacted to alleviate the hardship exacerbated by the escalating food prices in the country.
Furthermore, the State Executive Council approved a budget of N2.83 billion for the special feeding program and allocated an additional N1.125 billion for the emergency procurement of rice and spaghetti to ensure an adequate food supply across the state.
