The Comptroller-General of Immigration, CGI, Kemi Nandap, has instructed all personnel assigned to the Nigeria-Niger Republic border to return to their duties without delay.

This directive was issued in a statement released by the Acting Service Public Relations Officer, Mr. Kenneth Kure, on Thursday in Abuja.

The decision comes after the reopening of the borders between Nigeria and Niger Republic, which had been closed in compliance with ECOWAS directives.

ECOWAS had enforced sanctions on Niger Republic, including the closure of both land and air borders, following a coup that led to the ousting of President Mahmed Bazoum.

President Bola Tinubu announced the reopening of the borders on Wednesday.

In response to this development, the Immigration chief has instructed all Comptrollers stationed at States and Border Commands along the Nigeria-Niger Republic border to promptly adhere to the directive and lift all restrictions on human movement.

CGI Nandap assured that the Immigration Service would continue to facilitate safe and orderly border crossings while maintaining the integrity and security of Nigeria’s borders.
