Senator Shehu Sani has shed light on the repercussions faced by Bauchi Central Senator, Abdul Ningi, following his three-month suspension from the Senate. Sani explained that the suspension entails several restrictions and financial consequences for Ningi.

According to Sani, Ningi will no longer be allowed to attend Senate plenaries or committee meetings, nor participate in oversight functions. Additionally, his salary, allowances, and all entitlements will be withheld during the suspension period.

Furthermore, Ningi will be denied access to his office and barred from entering the premises of the National Assembly until the suspension is lifted.

Sani expressed concern over the severity of the punishment, suggesting that it has silenced even lawmakers from opposition parties on important issues. He recalled his own experience of facing potential suspension when he publicly disclosed the salaries and running costs of lawmakers, highlighting the pressure to avoid speaking out excessively.

In essence, Ningi’s suspension represents a significant limitation on his legislative activities and privileges within the Senate, reflecting the serious consequences faced by lawmakers for their actions and statements.
