Amid recent death threats from an Islamic cleric, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, remains resolute, dismissing the intimidation and asserting her courage during a visit to Bauchi State on Tuesday. The threats, originating from cleric Idris Tenshi, labeled her an “infidel” deserving of death, igniting widespread condemnation.
In a sermon delivered in Hausa, Tenshi’s inflammatory remarks targeted Mrs. Tinubu, prompting public outcry and a subsequent apology from the cleric. Undeterred by the threats, Mrs. Tinubu exhibited her unwavering spirit during her address in Bauchi, emphasizing her steadfastness in the face of adversity.
“I want to thank the Bauchi State Governor for his assurances of my safety, but I want to emphasize that I am beyond the age of fear. If God has granted me over 60 years on this earth, I shouldn’t tremble at the prospect of death. Nigeria belongs to all of us, and now more than ever, it’s crucial for us to stand united,” asserted the First Lady.
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, condemning the cleric’s actions as a “national embarrassment,” commended Mrs. Tinubu’s courageous response to the threats. He pledged to hold Tenshi accountable for his actions and extended apologies to the First Lady on behalf of the state.
Expressing his dismay over the threats originating from within Bauchi State, Governor Bala reiterated the paramount importance of Mrs. Tinubu’s safety, assuring her of the government’s unwavering commitment to her protection.
“Your life holds greater significance to us than our own. Rest assured, no harm will befall you,” declared Governor Bala, underscoring the state’s dedication to safeguarding the well-being of all its residents, irrespective of their status or affiliations.
