Mauricio Sulaiman, President of the World Boxing Council (WBC), has expressed the organization’s willingness to endorse Anthony Joshua’s potential bout against the victor of the upcoming clash between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight championship.
Fury and Usyk are set to go toe-to-toe on May 18 in Saudi Arabia, with all the belts on the line. Following this highly anticipated showdown, a rematch between the two fighters is expected later in the year.
Joshua, fresh off a stunning second-round knockout victory over former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, stands poised to challenge the winner of Fury vs. Usyk.
Sulaiman confirmed the WBC’s acceptance of a sanction request for an undisputed title fight and reiterated their readiness to support the bout between Joshua and the eventual winner, provided there are no contractual or promotional obstacles.
“The WBC position right now is very open to support the undisputed champion taking on the fights that the fans want to see,” Sulaiman stated in an interview with Sky Sports.
