The Ekiti State Government has taken decisive action in response to a chieftaincy tussle in Iworo Quarters, Omuo Ekiti, Ekiti East Local Government Area, ordering the immediate cessation of Chief Sunday Faluyi’s monthly salary. This decision comes after accusations that Chief Faluyi led a rebellion against the installation of a new Aro chieftaincy title in the community.

Deputy Governor Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye issued the directive during a mediation session with a delegation from the community, responding to a protest letter by Abel Oluwasogo of Ayauna family. Oluwasogo accused Olomuo of Omuo Ekiti, Oba Noah Omonigbehin, of obstructing the family’s rightful place among the royal dynasties entitled to the coveted seat.

The resolution favored the petitioner, directing Oba Omonigbehin to initiate the installation process for a new Aro from the Ayaro dynasty of Iworo Quarters. Deputy Governor Afuye admonished Olomuo to adhere to longstanding rotation practices favoring the Ayaro dynasty for the title, emphasizing the importance of peace and posterity.

Chief Faluyi faced punitive action for his alleged role in the rebellion, with his salary suspended pending resolution with Olomuo. Deputy Governor Afuye condemned Faluyi’s actions, stressing the need for chiefs to uphold unity and respect for monarchs.

Addressing the dispute over the new Aro chieftaincy title’s origin, Deputy Governor Afuye referenced historical documents and community resolutions from 1999. She asserted that the succession order determined by the four families of Iworo Quarters should be upheld, with the position rotating to the Ayaro dynasty next.

Oba Omonigbehin refuted claims of favoritism, stating his compliance with established community protocols and succession orders since assuming his reign in 1991. He emphasized that the succession order originated from the families themselves and was not influenced by his personal preferences.

The government’s intervention underscores the importance of maintaining peace and adherence to established traditions in resolving chieftaincy disputes within Ekiti State.
