President Bola Tinubu has pledged to put an end to the longstanding farmers-herders crisis in Nigeria within a remarkably short timeframe of two to three weeks.
Speaking during the inauguration of a mechanized agricultural project in Minna, Niger State, Tinubu emphasized his determination to implement programs that would swiftly resolve the crisis. He urged state governors to allocate lands to facilitate his proposed initiatives.
Tinubu underscored the need to reorient the farming population, including livestock programs, to address the challenges posed by the conflict between farmers and herders. He highlighted the potential of Nigeria’s dairy system, envisioning a scenario where the country can feed all school children with a daily pint of milk if dairy farming is properly harnessed.
Expressing concern over the economic sabotage caused by cattle encroaching on farmlands, Tinubu stressed the importance of reorienting herders and creating provisions for cattle rearing. He assured that, as President, he is committed to presenting a comprehensive program within two to three weeks to tackle the issue effectively.
