The Lagos State Police Command, in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has placed its operatives on high alert to thwart any potential attacks on warehouses and shopping malls in the state.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Command, confirmed this proactive measure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday. He emphasized that security has been tightened around various shopping malls and government warehouses housing food items across Lagos to deter any potential attacks by hoodlums.
Recent incidents, including the break-in of a warehouse belonging to the Federal Capital Territory’s Department of Agriculture in Bwari Area Council and the looting of trucks carrying food items in Niger State, have raised concerns about similar occurrences in Lagos.
Hundeyin assured the public that while the Command was not anticipating such attacks, it was essential to deploy security measures to prevent acts of violence in the state. Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adegoke Fayoade, has deployed personnel to vulnerable areas, with Area Commanders, Heads of Tactical Teams, and DPOs briefed accordingly.
Furthermore, operatives of the state anti-crime outfit, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), have been instructed to maintain close surveillance on government warehouses and malls selling food items and beverages.
Similarly, NEMA in the South-West Region has intensified security around its warehouses to forestall potential attacks by miscreants seeking to exploit the current challenges in the country. Ibrahim Farinloye, the Coordinator of NEMA in the South-West Zone, assured that all critical stakeholders are on standby to prevent any attempts to break into the facilities where food items are stored.
While there are currently no food items in the warehouses, precautionary measures have been implemented to safeguard all government assets in the region. Farinloye emphasized the importance of taking proactive safety measures to protect both human lives and government assets from unforeseen circumstances.
