Former Mavin Records signee, Reekado Banks, has expressed admiration for his ex-boss, Don Jazzy, reflecting on their time together while affirming his departure from the label was on good terms.

In an interview with media personality Daddy Freeze, Reekado addressed inquiries about his decision to part ways with Mavin Records, emphasizing the amicable nature of his exit.

“That man took me from absolutely nothing. I wonder why anyone would think it wasn’t amicable. The end of the contract came, I wanted to leave, and he (Don Jazzy) gave me his blessings,” Reekado stated, shedding light on the supportive stance of Don Jazzy towards his career transition.

Dispelling misconceptions surrounding his departure, Reekado highlighted the prevalence of artist-label disputes in Nigerian music and its influence on public perceptions. He attributed assumptions of discord with Mavin Records to industry norms rather than any actual rift.

“I feel like it’s a tradition in the Nigerian record label business for artists to break out angrily from their record labels and this is being imposed on my relationship with Jazzy,” Reekado remarked, challenging preconceived notions about his exit.

In a heartfelt tribute to Don Jazzy, Reekado described the music mogul as a blessing in his life, expressing eternal gratitude for the opportunities and guidance provided during his tenure at Mavin Records.
